Kalakriti Art Gallery is organising A Long Climb, an exhibition of glass sculpture by Sisir Sahana, from 25th March to 10th April. 15 of Sahana's most recent glass works are on display. The works are all done in cast glass.
Sisir Sahana was born in 1963 in Bankura, West Bengal. He studied art at Kala Bhavan, Shantiniketan, and holds Bachelors and Masters Fine Art degrees in painting. Sahana also holds an Advanced Diploma in stained glass painting from Central St. Martin's College of Art & Design, London.
Sahana is an artist known more for his glass sculpture or relief work in glass than for his other works like painting and graphic representation. He mastered this unique avenue of expression whilst on fellowship and study trips to Europe and America, when he tried his hand at stained glass, and later shifted to haptic glass freezes.
Recognition for this artist has come in the form of several awards, including the Samakalin Chitrakala Parishad award in Assam, the Bombay Art Society award and the Hyderabad Art Society award.
Sahana works with several media, but finds glass the easiest and the most enjoyable means to express himself. Although he has worked as a lecturer and art teacher in Hyderabad colleges and schools, Sahana now focuses on his art and glass-making workshops.
