Yuvakalavahini, in association with Saripally Kondala Rao, is organising the Dr. Akkineni Nageshwara Rao Nataka Kala Parishad State Level Padya & Gadya Nataka Competitions 2007, from 10th to 14th September, at the Ravindra Bharathi auditorium. A total of four gadya natakas (prose drama) - Aatma Katha, Kabir Das, Rangula Ratnam and You - and five padya natakas (verse drama) - Nartanashala, Sri Khadga Tikkana, Ye Velugulaki Prasthanam, Bhukailash and Chiruthonda Nambi - will be staged during the 5-day competitions.
Today, the fourth day, a social play called You is being staged by Kalavani from the Godavari districts. This play is directed by M Prasada Murthy and has been written by Y Saibaba. It intends to send a message on how modern civilisation is misusing things that were once very valuable in the primitive age. For instance, fire, which was discovered by early men for cooking, is now used to burn people in the name of dowry, riots and revenge.
In this play, the director highlights many other important discoveries which people today are using for negative purposes. It is You who are responsible and You whose duty it is to respect Nature's rules, emphasizes the play.
M Janakinath, M Prasada Murthy, M V Rajarshi, Kondala Rao, R U Bhaskar, K Visveswara Rao, Bandari Babu Rao, Nani, Durga Prasad, Rama Murthy, Sujata, Saroja, Natakumari, Swapna and Krishnaveni are portraying the various characters. The music is by Sambasiva Rao, K Nageshwara Rao and Pothuraju.
