REVIEW FOR WHEN GOD SAID CHEERS - A PLAY BY CYRUS DASTUR
As part of its Theatre Nites, Taj Deccan is presenting an Indian English play, When God Said Cheers, on 22nd March. The play is directed by Cyrus F Dastur, and is written by noted screen-writer and director Anurag Kashyap (of Satya, Kaun, Shool and Yuva fame). It has Tom Alter, Cyrus Dastur, Vikrant Sakhalkar and Keisha Lobo enacting the main characters in the play.
When God Said Cheers is a simple story of Man's (Cyrus) rendezvous with God (Tom Alter) in a pub, and their discussion of life over a pint of beer. The play looks at some very crucial and grave aspects and issues of life and mankind today in a lighthearted manner. It falls in that genre of drama that talks about serious issues but at the same time one can't ignore the underlying humor involved.
A colorful comedy that almost transports you to the terrestrial world, the play also carries a light musical touch with the café singer (Keisha) singing some of the most popular hits of all times.
The entry to the play is by invitations only. Please contact the venue at 6666-3939 for further details.
This is by far ONE OF THE WORST PLAYS I HAVE EVER SEEN – it is not funny, or poignant, or insightful, or even interesting. It is monotonous and endless. To top it off Cyrus Dastur is an outstandingly awful actor – good for college dramatics and not professional theater. PS: Why do NONE of the reviews (or should i say advertorials) mention this play is in Hindi?
