Hyderabad Western Music Forum, in association with Alliance Francaise and Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, is presenting a Western Music Appreciation Series. As part of the series, a piano recital of Johann Sebastian Bach's compositions by Timothy Marthand is being conducted on 31st January, at Goethe-Zentrum.
Johann Sebastian Bach (March 21, 1685-July 28, 1750) was a German Baroque composer. He is known as one of the greatest musicians of all time, but during his lifetime, he was little-known and was mostly recognized for performing on the organ. Bach composed in many established musical forms, including, for example, the cantata and fugue, and developed them into complex and sublime pieces. He composed over 1,100 works in almost every musical genre (except opera).
Timothy Marthand is a concert pianist from Hyderabad who has studied music at the doctoral level and performed extensively in the US and Europe. He has worked with Leon Fleisher, Charles Rosen, William Grant Naboré and Andreas Staier at the International Piano Foundation headed by Martha Argerich in Italy. Apart from performing solo concerts around the world, Marthand is also an active chamber musician and devotes time to teaching. His teaching studio is located in Banjara Hills.
Entry is by tickets of Rs. 100 for members of Hyderabad Western Music Forum and Rs. 200 for non-members. Please contact Goethe Zentrum at 6552-6443 or the Alliance Francaise at 2770-0734 for tickets and further details.
