She's has awards and titles liberally bestowed upon a 3-decade career. Her greatest achievement, however, is how many she's taught without charging any fee.
To commemorate the 93rd birth anniversary of Sangeeta Ksheerasagara Uppalapati Ankaiah, Sangeeta Ksheerasagaram, in association with Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha, is organising musical concerts in his honor from 12th to 18th March, at Kala Subbarao Kala Vedika, the mini hall of Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha in Chikkadpally.
Today, the fourth day, Avasarala Kanyakumari will be performing a Carnatic violin recital, with accompanying support from Anuttama on the violin and D S R Murthy on the mridangam. On this occasion, Violin Vidhwanmani Avasarala Kanyakumari from Chennai and Mridanga Bhaskara D S R Murthy from Hyderabad will be felicitated.
Kanyakumari is an extraordinary accompanist, soloist, teacher, innovator, composer and organizer. She has been instrumental in bringing many a musical talent to the forefront. She has a B A in Carnatic Music, and trained under Ivathuri Vijayeswara Rao of the AIR, M Chandrashekharan and thereafter M L Vasantha Kumari.
She has performed at USA, Canada, France, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka, besides India. She was awarded with the title Dhanurveena Pravina by Sangita Kalanidhi Late M S Subbulakshmi, when she completed 25 years as a violinist. Awards have flooded her career that has spanned over three decades - Kalaimamani, Ugadi Puraskar, Sunada Vani, Sangeetha Ratna and Sangeeta Kala Nipuna to name a few.
With a voice known for its high tonal quality and silken bowing, she has a dedication to teaching that has made her a very sought after teacher. And for talented students, she teaches without charging a fee.
Sangeeta Ksheerasagaram has been organizing classical music shows in memory of Late Uppalapati Ankaiah. As a tribute to the legend, it promotes upcoming and established artists by inviting them to perform in these concerts.
