A 3-day classical music festival starts in town today. And it's starting in style!
Nada Bharathi is organising a 3-day Sampradaya Instrumental Music Festival at Kala Subbarao Kala Vedika, the mini-hall of Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha, between 28th and 30th May. Noted instrumentalists like vainika Kaja Subhashini Sastry, violinist Mangalampalli Surya Deepti and flautist V Nagaraju will perform during the festival.
Today, the inaugural day, Kaja Subhashini Sastry will play Carnatic music on the veena. Providing her with supporting music are K Srinivas on the mridangam and B Janardhan on the ghatam. The recital is dedicated to the memory of Pappu Chandrashekar, a renowned veena vidhwan of Andhra Pradesh.
Subhashini is a disciple of late Vasa Krishnamurthy and also learnt from Emani Sankara Sastry, both highly regarded vidhwans of veena. She is an A-grade artiste of the All-India Radio. Subhashini is a regular performer at the AIR's Sangeeth Sammelan national programs.
Nada Bharathi was started in 2000 by a renowned mridangist Yuva Sangeeta Bharathi Paravastu Srinivas Gopalan, who hails from a family of classical musicians. The basic objective of the organisation is to preserve, promote and propogate all forms of classical music, by increasing awareness through regular concerts.
Since its inception, it has conducted more than 500 concerts, concentrating not only on Carnatic music, but also on Hindustani music. The organisation has organised musical concerts of renowned vocalists, violinists, vainikas, mridangists, flautists and vainikas.
