REVIEW FOR VEENA DUET BY PADMA RAMAKRISHNAN & VIDYA RAMARAJ
As part of its monthly program of music, Kalasagaram is presenting a veena duet recital by Padma Ramakrishnan and Vidya Ramaraj, on 23rd September, at the Kalasagaram premises in West Marredpally. The recital will be supported by Vidyasagar on the mridangam.
Padma had her training in the veena at the Swati Tirunal College, Trivandrum, where she completed the Gaana Praveena course. She also completed the Alankar course from the Maharashtra Mandali, Hyderabad. She is a B-grade artiste of the AIR, Hyderabad.
Vidya Ramaraj was initiated into veena at a young age, and learnt under I Chellai and Neela Roy. She also learnt Carnatic vocal under late Raja Shanmugam. She has performed a number of concerts with Padma Ramakrishnan at various sabhas in Hyderabad, and has also been performing every year at the Bhagavatha Mela concerts at Melatur, Thanjavur.
Kalasagaram is a South-Indian cultural association situated in the East Nehru Nagar of East Marredpally, and has been organising Carnatic music concerts for more than 35 years. The concerts are always held in the Keyes High School campus at the open-air theater. The singers are generally from outside Hyderabad, usually amateurs and upcoming artistes, and quite competent. Kalasagaram also occasionally stages South-Indian classical dances and Tamil plays.
