REVIEW FOR U-BAHN LINIE 1 - MUSICAL THEATRE & DISCUSSION BY GOETHE ZENTRUM
Musicals are the flavor of the season. A performance of Linie 1, a musical of the 80s, is being organized by the Goethe Zentrum at Vidyaranya High School, on 28th July. The recital starts at 3:30pm.
Linie 1 is being brought to Hyderabad by Bunte Buhne - the students' theater group of Goethe Institute, Pune. The musical is set inside the Berlin metro line U-Bahn Linie 1. The metro line used to pass through the Western part of the city between the stations Ruhleben and Schlesisches Tor (Kreuzberg), and crossed various quarters with very different social structures. A girl from the countryside comes to Berlin to look for her friend, and gets to know various persons from Berlin on her metro ride in the U-Bahn Linie 1.
Linie 1 was first presented at the Grips-Theater in Berlin on April 30, 1986. The music was written by Birger Heymann along with the rock band No Ticket, while the screenplay was written by Volker Ludwig. In 1988, a team led by Reinhard Hauff filmed Linie 1, turning it into a successful musical-movie. Linie 1 is one of the most played German theatre shows.
After the performance, there will be a panel discussion with eminent theatre representatives from Hyderabad, on the thriving local theatre scene.
