This taut, absorbing and compelling drama based on Reginald Rose's original television
play, gives an account of an all male jury confined to one jury room, deciding
the fate of a boy who is accused of killing his father. When they are almost about
to finalize the verdict pronouncing him guilty, one of the jurors differs, and
others are reluctant to re-examine the issues. But his persistence gradually reveals
the doubts on the prisoner's guilt.
Little by little, his calm logic sways the others one by one, who admit to his doubts - and finally the accused is acquitted. This penetrating, sensitive and sometimes shocking dissection of the hearts and minds of men who obviously are something less than gods, was the debut venture of director Sideny Lumet, and is supported by Henry Fonda's forceful portrayal as the open-minded juror.
