The Great Hyderabad Adventure Club is organising a rappelling / bouldering / trekking morning at the Shamirpet Lake on 12th December, from 6:15am to 9:00am. The participants will all be assembling at the Apollo Hospital, Vikrampuri. Experience it all by performing rappelling on a 160 feet down / 80 degree vertical angle.
The session begins with an introduction to the activity with information about climbing and rappelling equipment like carabiners, descenders, harnesses and rappelling ropes. There will be a demonstration of rappelling techniques, and anchoring and safety systems, followed by guided attempts by participants.
Rappelling, abseiling or canyoning is a technique of descent on vertical faces with the aid of ropes and specialized equipment. It is the quickest and easiest way to get a taste of mountaineering. Perfect as an introductory adventure, rappelling also has a psychological application in boosting confidence and courage.
The Shamirpet lake is situated about 20km north of Secunderabad. It is an artificial one, built during the reign of the Nizams. Its beautiful rocky terrain gives ample opportunity to use your skills to navigate around the boulders while keeping an eye on the lake and the surrounding water bodies. The periphery of the lake has a lot of boulders and rocks of different sizes, thereby giving ample opportunities to beginners who want to try their hand at rock-climbing and bouldering.
The participants should all wear full track pants and T-shirts, sport shoes and a sun cap, and carry a water bottle. They can also get some fruits, juices, energy bars or something to munch on after and during the trek. Those interested can also carry a camera to take snaps.
The Great Hyderabad Adventure Club is a non-profit club established to provide everyone opportunities to get outdoors, try new activities such as travel, trekking, hiking, camping and adventure sports like rock climbing, rappelling, paragliding, skiing, white water rafting and scuba diving, and generally have a fantastic outdoor time.
