The Great Hyderabad Adventure Club is organising an early morning trek to the picturesque Durgam Cheruvu this weekend.
Durgam Cheruvu, meaning "the secret lake", is situated close to the Shilparamam Craft Village and Hitech City. The reason behind the intriguing name is ambiguous, but some say that for many years there were no roads to reach the lake, and that it was a well-kept secret for 20 years.
The shields of granite rocks around here are said to be the only ones of their kind in the whole of Asia that date back to over 2,500 million years and attract nature and rock lovers from all over. The lake is spread over an area of 63 acres, and is surrounded bythe hills of the Deccan Plateau. This secret lake is now a haven for visitors, with boating facilities, fishing activity, with a restaurant.
If you're up for participation, you must wear full track pants and T-shirts, sport or trekking shoes (preferably with knee support) and a sun cap, and carry a water bottle. You may get along some fruits, juices, energy bars or something to munch on after and during the trek. And those who're avid photographers can also carry a camera to take a few snaps.
