REVIEW FOR THE SONG OF SPARROWS - IRANIAN FILM BY MAJID MAJIDI
The Hyderabad Film Club is screening an Iranian movie titled The Song Of Sparrows (Avaz-e Gonjeshk-ha) at Sarathi Studios in Ameerpet, on 15th May.
Directed and produced by Majid Majidi, the film has Reza Naji, Maryam Akbari, Kamran Dehghan, Hamed Aghazi and Shabnam Aklaghi playing the lead roles.
Karim works at an ostrich farm outside of Tehran, Iran. He leads a simple and contented life with his family in his small house, until one day, when one of the ostriches runs away. Karim is blamed for the loss, and is fired from the farm. Soon after, he travels to the city in order to repair his elder daughter's hearing aid, but finds himself mistaken for a motorcycle taxi driver.
Thus begins his new profession - ferrying people and goods through heavy traffic. The people and goods that he deals with start to transform his generous and honest nature, much to the distress of his wife and his daughters. It is up to those closest to him to restore the values that he had once cherished.
The film was selected as Iran's representative for Best Foreign Language Film at the 81st Academy Awards, and screened as the closing film at the International Film Festival of India 2008, Goa.
Entry is free for members of the Hyderabad Film Club. Please contact Bh S S Prakash Reddy of the Club at 2373-0841/93910-20243 for further details.
