Simantini Dhuru & K Chandra Mouli will be holding a talk and discussion session on the topic of 'The Right To Education Act 2009 - Fulfillment of the Fundamental Right Or Mere Formality?', on 6th August at 7pm.
50 years after the Constitutional Directive, the fundamental right to education has finally materialized as a law. Today's talk will deal with whether the 'Right To Free And Compulsory Education Act 2009' (RTE Act 2009) will genuinely address the dimensions of quality, quantity and equity - or whether it will remain the elusive triangle it has been thus far?
Simantini Dhuru has been an activist in the field of education, for the past 20 years. As the Director of the Avehi-Abacus Project, she has worked with Mumbai Municipal Schools. She was also a consultant-member at NCERT and Executive Council Member for National Mission of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. She has made documentary films as well.
K Chandra Mouli is the Commisioner, Panchayati Raj under Rural Employment, and an advocate for the right to education.
The event is free and open for all. Please contact the venue at 98490-26029 for further details.
