The Birdwatchers’ Society of Andhra Pradesh is organising a meeting of its members, for film screening of The Life Of Birds, on 18th February, at the Association of German Culture (Goethe Zentrum Hyderabad), Hermitage Office Complex, Hill Fort Road, Nampally.
The Life of Birds is a BBC nature documentary series written and presented by David Attenborough, first transmitted in the UK from 21 October 1998. A study of the evolution and habits of birds, it was the 3rd of Attenborough's specialised surveys following his major trilogy that began with Life on Earth. David Attenborough is the younger brother of director, producer and actor Richard Attenborough.
Each of the ten 50-minute episodes discusses how the huge variety of birds in the world deal with different aspects of their day-to-day existence. The programs include sequences that were filmed in many locales. The series took 3 years to make, involving visits to 42 countries. The production team had decided that the bird calls and songs would not be dubbed on to the filmed pictures afterwards: they would be recorded simultaneously. To that end, care was taken not to include man-made 'noises off' from the likes of cars and aeroplanes.
The first appointment is with To Fly Or Not To Fly - the history of birds, from the first flying reptiles to today's consummate navigators. It looks at how birds first took to the skies, outmaneuvering the insects. The episode was first broadcast on 21 October 1998.
The Birdwatchers’ Society of Andhra Pradesh (BSAP) was founded as a non-governmental organisation in 1980 by a few enthusiasts of Andhra Pradesh with the object of spreading the message of bird conservation. The Society has grown during the years, and now has 600 members. It organises field trips, lectures, film and slide shows, nature camps, treks, waterfowl counts, bird ringing, and other activities. It is registered under the Public Societies Registration Act-I of 1350 F, and the office is located at Banjara Hills.
