A soothsayer tells the king that prince Siddharth will take to a life of asceticism and spirituality. Vowing to overturn the prophecy, the king makes sure that the prince is brought up amidst indulgent luxury. Siddharth wins the hand of the lovely princess Yashodhara in a skilful display of archery and swordsmanship. During a visit to the city, Siddharth witnesses the effects of old age, sickness and death, which prod him to reflect upon the true meaning of life. Unable to live a life of illusion, Siddharth leaves the palace one night on his faithful horse Kantaka. After several years of severe penance, Siddharth attains Nirvana and becomes Buddha - The Enlightened One. Buddha, along with his five disciples, travels far and wide preaching the dharma and his eight-fold path.
