To commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations between India and Sri Lanka, the Hyderabad Film Club, in collaboration with the High Commission of Sri Lanka, New Delhi, is presenting 60 Years Of Sri Lankan Cinema, from 14th to 22nd June, at the Sarathi Studios Preview Theatre, Ameerpet. 9 award-winning Sri Lankan films will be screened during the 9-day festival.
As part of the festival, The Compensation (Aswesuma) is being screened on the 7th day today. The film is directed by Benett Rathnayake, and has Joe Abeywickrama, Sangeetha Weeraratne, Jackson Anthony, Ravindra Randeniya and Mahendra Perera playing the lead roles.
Through the simple story of an old man, the director raises a question on crime and punishment. After his wife's funeral, old man Guneris tells the police that he be arrested and imprisoned for a triple murder which he committed 52 years ago. The story goes in flashback to narrate how the couple have to face the neglect and brutalities of life.
The film won the 4th Mumbai IFF India FIPRECI Award, the Houston IFF America Platinum Award, the 7th Dhaka FF Bangladesh Jury Award, the Fribour IFF Switzerland Award and the Golden Reel Award.
