Creaking Projectors is screening a British movie, "The Boat That Rocked", on 5th December at the Syn, Taj Deccan.
"The Boat That Rocked" (retitled "Pirate Radio" in North America) is a 2009 British comedy film written and directed by Richard Curtis with a story based on pirate radio in the United Kingdom during the 1960s. Its cast includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Rhys Ifans, Nick Frost and Kenneth Branagh.
Set in 1966, the film tells the story of a group of rogue DJs on a boat in the middle of the Northern Atlantic, who play rock records, and break the law for the love of music. The songs they play unite and define an entire generation, and drive the British government up the wall. They play rock 'n' roll music as an act of defiance against the British government, which does everything in its power to shut them down.
The band of rebels is lead by the Count; Quentin - the boss of Radio Rock; Gavin - the greatest DJ in Britain; Midnight Mark; Doctor Dave; and young Carl who comes of age amidst the chaos of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. The film features a selection of music that includes hits by The Beatles, The Stones, Beach Boys, Dusty Springfield, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Smokey Robinson, David Bowie, Otis Redding and Cat Stevens among others.
