For most of these recipients, applause while on stage is a way of life. But for
the state, it's a great way of resuscitating many falling arts.
The Andhra Pradesh State Cultural Council will today give away the annual Hamsa awards to prominent personalities. The awards were instituted in 1999 to encourage individuals to perform and to felicitate them for outstanding services in the fields of literature, music, dance, drama, sculpture/painting and folk/tribal arts. The awards carry a cash prize of Rs. 30,000, a shawl, a gold plated 'Hamsa' memento (swan) and a citation signed by the Chief Minister.
The A P State Cultural Council and the Department of Culture are jointly organizing this event. This is the 4th annual award function in a row. The list of winners of the awards is yet to be released by government to the press.
