IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is organising the nation-wide TCS IT Wiz Quiz in 12 Indian cities - Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Pune, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Kochi, Lucknow, Delhi and Mumbai. The Hyderabad leg of the regional round will be held on 29th July, at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan auditorium, King Koti.
The quiz is open to school students studying in classes VIII to XI. The quiz will focus on the world of the Internet and websites, IT buzzwords and acronyms, IT personalia, advertisements of IT and communication companies, software products, companies, brands, history of IT, etc., besides on the areas where IT has made an impact including education, entertainment, books, multimedia, banking, advertising and sports. Noted quizmaster Giri Balasubramaniam aka Pickbrain will host the quiz.
Each institution is allowed to send multiple teams (with 2 members per team) to participate. School uniforms are a must, in order to participate. Only the first 500 registered teams will be allowed to participate in the written preliminary round of the quiz. The best 6 teams from the preliminary round will qualify for the finals, and there is no registration fee.
The regional rounds will be followed by the national finals in the month of December 2010, where the winning teams from the 12 regional rounds will compete for the TCS IT Wiz National Champion title. The 6 in the regional finals will receive an array of prizes from TCS - backpacks, MP3 players, headphones, T shirts, water sippers, and more. The 2010 TCS IT Wiz Regional winners will walk away with laptops, and the runners-up will be rewarded with Netbooks.
