To promote IT awareness and encourage young talent, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) launched TCS IT Wiz - the country’s first ever Inter-School Information Technology Quiz for schools - in 1999 in Bangalore. Subsequently, the quiz was extended to other cities, and this year, 11 cities - Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Kochi, Pune, Bhubaneshwar, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Lucknow - are playing host. The winners of each of these 11 cities will participate in the National Finals to be held at Mumbai.
In Hyderabad, the quiz is being held on the 29th of September, at the Hari Hara Kala Bhavan. It is open to school students studying from Class 8 to 12 (including Pre-University students). The quiz will focus on the world of Internet and websites, IT buzzwords and acronyms, IT personalia, advertisements of IT and communication companies, software products, companies, brands, history of IT etc., besides on the areas where Information Technology has made an impact, such as education, entertainment, books, multimedia, Internet, banking, advertising and sports. Noted quizmaster Giri Balasubramaniam aka Pickbrain will host the quiz.
Each institution is allowed to send multiple teams (two members per team) to participate. School uniforms are a must to participate. Only the first 500 registered teams will be allowed to participate in the written preliminary round of the Quiz. The six best teams from the preliminary round will qualify for the finals, and there is no registration fee.
The regional winners will walk away with a laptop and flight tickets to participate in the National Finals in Mumbai, while the runners-up will win nano iPods each. The six regional finalists will get travel bags, T-shirts, CD cases, travel mugs and coffee table books from TCS, in addition to Fastrack watches from Titan. There will be prizes for the best team name, best cheering squad and attractive audience prizes too.
