The Tata group is conducting the national-level annual Tata Crucible Campus Quiz, on 2nd February, at the RNR auditorium, MLA Colony, Road No. 12, Opp. Lotus Pond. The Tata Crucible Quiz is a team-based contest (2 participants per team), and is held in 3 parts. Two back-to-back tracks, separately for Tata Corporates and non-Tata Corporates, are held in June-July each year, consisting of regional rounds in 8 cities, and are followed by the National Finals. The third track is held for students in January/February of each year, also with 8 regional rounds followed by a National Final.
Three editions of Crucible Corporate version and two editions of the Crucible Campus version have been held so far, to enthusiastic response. Over 1,700 teams participated in the three tracks of the quiz held in calendar 2007. This year, the National Final for the Crucible Campus version will be held in Mumbai.
Each team should comprise of two members from the same institution. Noted quizmaster Giri Balasubramaniam, popularly known as Pickbrain, will host the show. Known for his distinctive style of quizzing, sense of humor and approachable nature, Giri holds seven Limca records for quizzing achievements, and has hosted more than 850 shows across 45 destinations of India. He has also hosted quiz shows in USA, Sri Lanka and the Middle East.
There are cash prizes to be won - the regional winner pockets Rs. 60,000 and the runner-up gets Rs. 30,000, while the National Final winner bags Rs. 2,00,000 along with the Tata Crucible Trophy. Apart from the above cash prizes, there will be several other prizes for the finalists and audiences at each city. Last year, the Hyderabad regional final was won by ICFAI, and the National Final by SIBM.
Tata Crucible was started in 2004, a year which was christened as the Century Of Trust year to commemorate the death centenary of the founder of the group, J N Tata, and the birth centenaries of two of its illustrious leaders, J R D Tata and Naval H Tata. It generated huge response as a high quality business quiz in the very first year, and has now become an annual event. In a commissioned research, Tata Crucible Campus Quiz has been judged the highest-rated ground quiz by the students of participating colleges.
