Swathi Muthyam (1985), directed by K Viswanath, won accolades at the Asian Film Festival in both the 'Best Movie' and the 'Best Actor' categories. The story is of an autistic man Sivayya (Kamal Hassan), and his struggle for survival. Defying his own disability and social customs, Sivayya marries a widow. He also fights against discrimination and earns his own living.
Radhika and Nirmalamma have rendered laudable performances in Swathi Muthyam. The music is by Illayaraja.
