The Civil Engineering Association of the Department of Civil Engineering, JNTU College of Engineering, is organising Sthapatya 2008, on 27th & 28th February, at the JNTU campus in Kukatpally. Sthapatya comes from the Sanskrit word Sthapana, which means foundation, apt for a civil engineering event.
The 2-day fest will feature various activities that include presentations by the students, debates, quiz competitions and workshops, as below:
Prastuti (Paper Presentation)
This is a platform where new ideas on various aspects of civil engineering can see the light of day. The topics of presentation are:
Concrete Technology
Geotechnical Engineering
Structural Engineering
Environmental Engineering
Transportation Engineering
Water Resources Engineering
GIS, GPS & Remote Sensing
Repair & Rehabilitation
or Miscellaneous Topics
Tarang (Poster Presentation)
Pick your favorite concept from any one of the following subjects, and expound your theories with the help of splendid images. Posters have to be presented on the topics of:
Water Resource Engineering
Environmental Engineering
Transportation Engineering
Structural Engineering
Daksh (General Quiz)
This quiz is a blend of current affairs, general knowledge and Indian heritage. There will be a written elimination round first, and teams qualifying in the prelims will get to participate in the final quiz.
Nirmaan (Model Presentation)
This requires crafting an efficient structure (using the materials given) which adheres to the specified constraints mentioned in the problem.
Disha (Treasure Hunt)
A treasure hunt which tests your aptitude for direction and distance, and, of course, surveying skills.
Srishti (Innovative Design)
Pick any current persisting problem in the practical or theoretical spheres of civil engineering, and come up with remarkable solutions. The solution has got to be innovative, original and practically viable. The existing setback should also be highlighted clearly.
Spardha (Technical Debate)
Argue and revel on the most debatable issues pertaining to the civil engineering and construction industry. The topics for the debate are:
Ground Improvement Techniques - Their Applicability For Different Soil Conditions
Structural Engineering - Structural System For High Rise Structures
Transportation Engineering - The Best System Of Signal Co-Ordination
Workshop
This workshop gives an in-depth insight into the rising avenues in the construction industry. It strives to bridge the gap between the real-time construction industry and college classrooms.
