On the occasion of the 11th anniversary of Sri Sri Bhargav Kala Natya Mandali, a Telugu mythology drama Sri Ramaravaneeyam is being staged on 24th August, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. A book by the same name, written by Poosala Rajni Gangadhar, will be released by Gnanpeeth and Padmabhushan awardee Dr C Narayana Reddy.
Sri Ramaravaneeyam is a padyanatakam derived from the Ramayana. Ravana, the asura king, is known only for his evil deeds. In this drama, the writer throws light on the good side of Ravana. He is known to be an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, and doesn't forget to worship him daily.
Written and directed by Poosala Ranji Gangadhar, the drama has its characters played by K Nageshwara Rao Choudhary as Lord Vishnu and Rama, B Narayana Swamy as Lakshmana, Kali Subbarao as Ravana, V Vivekananda as Vibhishana, Dr. S Janaki Ramaiah as Narada, Ch Venkatarama Verma as Valmiki and Cherukuri Srinivasa Rao as Sita. The drama is being organised by Cherukuri Srinivasa Rao and the music is being handled by R Bhavani on the harmonium, Thota Raju on the dholak and Shaikh Dawood on the clarinet.
The chief guest for the evening is Gnanpeeth and Padmabhushan awardee Dr. C Narayana Reddy, and the other guests for the evening are Gummadi Gopalakrishna, renowned theater actor and Nandi awardee; Manohar Raju, ex-governor of Lions Club; Acharya K Anandan, Telugu University; Ch Nancharaiah, renowned theater actor and Nandi awardee; and Jandyala Subbalakshmi, writer and theater actor.
