Ramya is the daughter of Ram Mohan, an officer with the RBI, and Padma Nayani, an officer with the LIC. An interest for Kuchipudi made her take up the art under Maddali Usha Gayathri, since the last 3 years. With rigorous training, she has become one of the finest students of her guru, and has participated in various dance ballets, like the Vande Mataram and Yashoda Krishna.
Maddali Usha Gayathri is a disciple of late Vedantam Jagannatha Sarma and late Yelleswarapu Surya Prakasa Sarma. A disciplined and traditional Kuchipudi dancer, she has performed extensively both in India and abroad earlier, but has now settled as a guru teaching budding artistes at her dance school Nritya Kinnera. She occasionally performs in dance ballets along with her students, which she choreographs - her favorite is Yashoda Krishna. She is a recipient of the prestigious Hamsa Award from the Government Of Andhra Pradesh.
