Are you willing to pay Rs. 200 to watch a group of non-regular singers offer you
some Rafi numbers? (Rs. 100? Rs. 50?) If you are, a fair share of it is probably
due to Rafi himself. One of the great things about this man is that he is helping
several singers make money from their talent so many years after he himself left.
And here is a typical example.
Rafi-Ki-Yaadein is a musical program organized by M A Hameed of the United Arts Academy once every year. In the memory of the famous late playback singer, Hameed has been organizing this event for the past 15 years.
Though Mohammed Rafi's birth anniversary is the 31st of July, non-availability of the Ravindra Bharathi has led United Arts to organize the event earlier this year. Around 25-30 songs will be presented on the day by singers of the Academy. The artists are M A Hameed, Mohammed Osman, Qhayyam, Kiran Kumar, Amjad Khan, Wilson Herald, Prakash Rao, Vijay Kumar, Benhur, Surekha, Yashoda, Tina, Shalini, Zeba and Mahuva. Allah Baksh on Keyboard and Yousuf Khan and troupe on Tabla will support the artists.
The chief guest on the evening will be P Venkaiah, Former IGP and Member APPSC.
Please contact M A Hameed at 339-8102 for further details.
