The Alliance Française of Hyderabad and the Goethe Zentrum Hyderabad, with support of the Embassy of France in India and in collaboration with the Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, Kri Foundation Delhi and Moving Images, are present Danzlenz Hyderabad - a preview on the festival of films on dance, on 25th November, at the Grill Room, on Road No. 1, Banjara Hills. The screenings of the films will be held on 26th & 27th at the auditorium of Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University.
The festival will present some unique films from across the world, including a few from India. It will feature some seminal documentaries including one on Chandralekha, the path breaking dancer-choreographer who passed away in December 2006.
The purpose of the festival is to salute the progressive spirit of dancers like Chandralekha and to promote the new dynamic genre of video dance to larger audiences of art lovers, dance connoisseurs and film buffs.
The program begins with a quick cup of tea/coffee followed by Arshiya Sethi's introduction to 10 selected films from the DanzLenz repertoire. There will be a 10-minute break during which a high tea (pastries, quiches etc.) will be on sale at Rs. 150 per head. The program will end with Sharira, a film on Chandralekha by Ein Lal.
The Managing Trustee of Kri Foundation, Arshiya Sethi, has long been concerned with the dynamics surrounding traditional dance and dancers working during times of social transformation. Issues of preservation, presentation and the progression of art forms have been the subjects of her research and her very active public career. She served as the Creative Head of Programs at New Delhi's prestigious India Habitat Center, one of India's most innovative showcases for the performing arts, and has also been the dance critic for The Times Of India for several years.
