Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation is presenting Pankhdiyaan, a blend of 3 performing art forms - theatre, dance and music - on 7th May, at the Taj Banjara. The cast includes Kabir Bedi, Anupam Kher, Mohammed Ali Baig, Juhi Babbar, Rahul Sharma and Vani Ganapathy. This theatrical production has been conceived, written and directed by Baig, and the sets and lights have been designed by M S Sathyu.
Pankhdiyaan is a poetry-theatre-dance production. It involves 3 actors - Anupam Kher, Kabir Bedi and Juhi Babbar - reading on stage poetry composed by 3 eminent Indian poets - Maqdoom Mohiuddin, Ali Sardar Jaffri and Sarojini Naidu. Then, there's also a classical-fusion dancer Vani Ganapathy performing Bharatanatyam to the poetry; and Rahul Sharma playing the santoor live on stage. Simultaneously, Zila Khan (daughter of legendary vocalist Ustad Vilayat Ali Khan) will be performing Hindustani vocal.
After its premiere in Hyderabad, the show will go on to tour Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Agra and Pune, from June onwards.
The Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation was founded by Mohammed Ali Baig in memory of his father Qadir Ali Baig, who was a doyen of Hindustani theater. It was established in an attempt at revival of theater, which had lost its sheen in India. The foundation has on board danseuse Vani Ganapathy, artistes Rohini Hattangadi, Suhasini Maniratnam and Urmila Matondkar, lyricist Javed Akhtar and director M S Sathyu.
