The Australian High Commission, New Delhi, in association with the Hyderabad Film Club, is presenting Australian Visions, a festival of acclaimed Australian films, from 8th to 10th March, at the Prasad Labs Preview Theatre. A total of 8 films will be screened during the film festival.
Today, the last day, Ned Kelly will be the last of 4 movies to be screened. Directed by Gregor Jordan, the film has Heath Ledger as Ned Kelly, Laurence Kinlan as Dan Kelly, Orlando Bloom as Joseph Byrne, Philip Barantini as Steve Hart, Naomi Watts as Julia Cook, Joel Edgerton as Aaron Sherritt and Geoffrey Rush as Superintendent Francis Hare.
This film is based on "Our Sunshine" by Robert Drew, a novel on the life of Australian bushranger and icon Ned Kelly. It tells of his life as a bushranger in north-west Victoria, where he lived all his life. He, his brother Dan, and two other men, Steve Hart and Joe Byrne, formed a gang. The four rob a bank and hijack an entire town for 3 days.
In the process, they kill 3 policemen who are hunting them. They then take over a pub in Glenrowan, where they basically hold a party, waiting for a train full of police to derail at a part of the track that they tore up. However a school teacher warns the train, and so the gang and all the others in the pub end up in a shootout with scores of policemen.
The entry is free for all. Please contact Bh S S Prakash Reddy of the Hyderabad Film Club at 2373-0841/93910-20243 for further details.
