This week, the Olympians shift the bull's eye to the city.
The 49th National Shooting Championship is being held at the SAAP shooting range in the Hyderabad Central University campus, Gachibowli. The championship will include rifle, pistol and shotgun events, and the number of participants are expected to cross over 1,500.
The tournament will also see some power-play from top rankers of the shooting arena. Athens Olympic's silver medalist Maj. Rajyavardhan Rathore; Olympic finalist shooters Abhinav Bindra, Anjali Bhagwat and Suma Shirur; Arjuna awardees Jaspal Rana, Deepali Deshpande, Samresh Jung, Mansher Singh, Manavjit Sandhu; and Olympian Gagan Narang will be seen in action.
This event is important for the participants as their scores will be taken into account for the selection of the Indian team for the Melbourne Commonwealth Games, to be held in March 2006.
The event was inaugurated by J Geeta Reddy, Minister for Tourism, Sugar and Major Industries, and by M Satyanarayan Rao, Minister for Sports, Culture and Cinematography.
