It was about time. After scores of occasions of being chief guest and felicitating
other artistes, this time the man himself is going to be centerstage, and will
receive an award dedicated to perhaps the century's most famous Telugu poet.
Yes, it is Acharya N Gopi, the Vice-Chancellor of the Telugu University, that
is being felicitated, and the honor is the Sri Sri Award.
Himagiri Art Theaters is a cultural organization basically into organizing events
like music shows. Once a year it organizes the Sri Sri Award function. Palla
Satyanarayana is the founder secretary of this organization, and, being an artist
himself, organizes music shows and sings Ghantasala, Kishore Kumar and Mukesh
Kumar hits in them along with other artists who are registered with the organization.
Satyanarayana constituted the Sri Sri Award - "Kavi Ratna" - to honor famous
Telugu poets. The first award was given to Kavi Ajanta in the year 1998. Seela
Virraju received it for 1999 and K Laxmi Narasaiah for 2000. And this year the
award is being given to the famed poet Acharya N Gopi.
The day's program will start with Sri Sri Apuroopa Cine Geeta Lahiri, where
Satyanarayana along with his fellow artists will sing songs penned by Sri Sri,
Arudra and Acharya Atreya in praise of farmers, who are described as the 'gems'
of mother earth.
The program will conclude with the distribution of uniforms and notebooks to
ten poor students with the aid of the State Bank of India, Secunderabad Branch.
