A lot has been said about the therapeutic qualities of Ghantasala's songs. Several people still like them for the old-fashioned reason - the melody. Here's another evening for all of them.
Swara Bhava Lahari is organising a musical nite of old Telugu melodies, on 14th March, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. Amateur singers like Y R Sastry, Muralidhar, Pavan Kumar, J Anjaneyulu, Chary, Rajyalakshmi, Rama and Haripriya will sing some duets of Ghantasala and Saluri Nageshwara Rao with female singers.
The orchestra will be provided by Seetaramaiah and Brahmanandam on the keyboards, Srikanth on the tabla, Dattatreya on the flute, and by Pandu, Prasad and Nagaraju with the other instruments.
On this ocasion, Y R Sastry will be awarded the Ghantasala - Saluri Nageshwara Rao Music Award for the year 2007 by the Ghantasala Memorial Kalapeetham of Machilipatnam, and Siddhu Rajyalakshmi will be awarded the Ghantasala - A P Komala Music Award for 2007, by the Ghantasala Gana Sabha of Machilipatnam.
The chief guest for the function is Vinnakota Muralikrishna, music director, and the sabha will be presided by Dr K V Rao, President of the Ghantasala Gana Sabha, and N V S Chalapathi, Secretary of the Ghantasala Memorial Kalapeetham.
Swara Bhava Lahari was started by Y R Sastry, a renowned amateur singer, 6 years ago. He organises musical nites every month at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha.
