What would Shammi Kapoor and Dilip Kumar be minus Mohammad Rafi's voice? Shammi
Kapoor may not have been called the James Dean of India and his "Chahe Koi Mujhe
Junglee Kahe" would have begun and ended with "Yahoo". And as for Dilip Kumar,
Bal Thackerey would not have been so angry with him. As for things Down South,
simply put, an era would not have existed without Ghantasala. That perhaps sums
up how an epoch took birth, courtesy their voices. Luckily, courtesy this grateful
being, that epoch has every possibility of being recreated.
Madhu Music Academy, founded by Madhusudan Reddy, conducts musical nites on the 25th of every month. This time, the nite will comprise some mesmerizing, melodious songs of Rafi and Ghantasala. Madhusudan Reddy will render 10-12 classics of Mohammed Rafi from films like 'Baiju Bawra', 'Mere Mehboob', 'Kashmir Ki Kali' and 'Mere Sanam'. He has more than 20 shows to his credit. The recipient of prestigious awards such as Apara Gantasala and Swarna Kankanam, Sharath Chandra will also sing 15-20 popular Ghantasala numbers.
Prior to this, the academy has given private shows in the US; thrice in Houston and once each in Los Angeles, Detroit, New Jersey, New York and Washington DC. They have performed in London and Dubai too.
The show is open to all music lovers. So, people can take a trip down memory lane without paying a single pie.
