PREVIEW FOR MOHINI ATTAM RECITAL BY HIROMI MARUHASHI
Few countries now dance to Japan's tunes, but that still doesn't make a Japanese
lady dancing to Indian tunes any less significant. Especially considering she's
representing Japan. Small kicks!
The Indo-Japanese Association is organizing a dance recital of (Ms) Hiromi Maruhashi today to promote international peace and integration between India and Japan.
Hailing from Tokyo, Hiromi Maruhashi took interest in Kerala's traditional dance form called Mohini Attam, and joined the Abhinaya Theater Research Center at Kerala to get training. She trained under the renowned Mohini Attam dance exponent, Kalamandalam Kalyanikutty Amma. Devoted to the classical dance tradition of India, and of Kerala in particular, Maruhashi aims to take this dance form to the world cultural forums. This trained danseuse has extensively toured both India and abroad presenting Mohini Attam, and has won several awards.
