As part of the Qadir Ali Baig theatre festival, Seagull Repertory from Guwahati is presenting a Hindi play, 'Madhyabartini' on 30th October in the Taramati Baradari indoor auditorium, Ibrahim bagh, at 7:30pm.
The play is based on a Rabindranath Tagore's classic, "Madhyabartini", which explores the journey of love in marital life through the eyes of two women and a man. It also seeks answers to conflicts that arise in a relationship between a man and a woman, and deals with women's liberty and feminism.
The 80-minute play is directed by Baharul Islam, who was trained as an actor at the NSD (National School Of Drama) in 1987-90 and has acted in plays in Assamese, Hindi and English. He has directed plays for Seagull Theatre, NSD Repertory, Ninasam, Rangayana Repertory and other theatre companies.
He has directed feature films and serials as well, and has written 4 plays in Assamese and 1 book on theatre. He received the Monohar Singh Smriti Puraskar in 2005, an award instituted by NSD.
Seagull Theatre was established in 1990 in Guwahati, Assam, by a few NSD graduates. Seagull seeks to improve the state of Assamese theatre, and runs repertory theatre academies (for children, youth and aged people), a publication wing and weekend shows at its own studio.
