Vidyasagar Art Centre,is organising a talk by Vasudha Thozhur on 18th Nov '08. The event will be held at Vidyasagar Art Centre, and will commence at 6:30 pm. This event is being organized by Alliance Francaise and Goethe-Zentrum.
As part of this talk and video screening, Listening Post - The Voice Project, and Narratives of Strength and Survival: the Himmat Workshops will be presented. Thozhur will present documented materials and six short videos from the Himmat Workshops, a project that looked at ways of rooting the practice of art in ground realities. The artist collaborated with Himmat, an activist organisation based in Vatva, Ahmedabad and worked with 6 young girls from Naroda Patia, one of the worst-hit areas during the Gujarat riots in 2002. She describe how the Himmat Workshops unfolded as an exploration of possibility of effecting social change through the medium of the visual language.
Vasudha Thozhur is a painter who is currently based in Baroda. She was born in Mysore in 1956 and educated at the College of Arts and Crafts, Madras, and at the School of Art and Design, Croydon, UK. She worked in Madras between 1981 and 1997. She has exhibited extensively in the country and abroad, and has participated in conferences and workshops as Visiting Faculty at MS University, Baroda, the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, and IICD, Jaipur.
