Alliance Francaise, in association with Sarathi Studio, is screening a French movie titled L'Esquive (Games Of Love And Chance) on 24th November. The film screening will begin at 6:30pm.
L'Esquive was directed by Abdel Kechiche in 2003, and runs for 117 minutes. The star cast of the film includes Osman Elkharraz, Sara Forestier, Sabrina Ouazani and Nanou Benhamou. L'Esquive swept the French César Awards, winning Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Female Newcomer (Sara Forestier).
This is Kechiche's 2nd film, and draws its energy from its setting in the Parisian projects, recently the scene of widespread rioting by marginalized young second generation immigrants. Tunisian-born Kechiche gets inside the head of a shy teenager (Osman Elkharraz) who overcomes the taunts of his friends to act in a school production of a classic 18th century play, if only to perform opposite the girl of his dreams.
The 15-year old Abdelkrim, known as Krimo, falls for his classmate, but is faced with a dilemma - just how is he going to declare his love to Lydia (Sara Forestier) without losing face? There’s only one solution - to bribe his friend Rachid (Rachid Hami), Lydia's stage partner, and take his place in the role of Arlequin. But this smart idea becomes a major battle for Krimo, who’s horrified by the amount of text he must learn by heart, as well as by his French teacher’s implacable demands.
