The silence of the women finds a meek voice as Alia sets out to redeem her soul.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Fonds Sud, a French program that aims at supporting films from the "South", Alliance Francaise of Hyderabad and the Hyderabad Film Club, in collaboration with the French Embassy in India, present a collection of nine films coming from Africa, Asia and Latin America.
These 20 years of the Fonds Sud has been dedicated to the 260 filmmakers supported by this program, who have faced obstacles with their talent and fighting spirit in order to capture their dreams.
This is a story of Alia, 25, who is fed up with singing at the weddings. After years of suffering the humiliation as a professional singer, she expresses her disappointment with her life. Her unspoken resentment for the fact that Lotfi, who has lived with her for ten years without marriage, and who fails to acknowledge the child she is carrying, surfaces with a vengence.
The announcement of the death of Prince Sid Ali, suddenly plunges her back into the past. On the occasion of the funeral she revisits the palace where she spent her childhood and adolescence, and where she was born of a servant mother and a father unknown - who could have been the Prince.
This film focuses most powerfully on the aspect of silence imposed on women in the Arab-Muslim world. They grow up living in doubt as to their own existence and their past.
