Les Gens De La Riziere is about the people of the rice plantation in Combodia, who narrate the story of Vong Poeuv, a small farmer with a tiny piece of cultivable land. His family, consisting of his wife Yim Om and their seven daughters, has to survive on this tiny strip of land. The rice culture, the rate at which the rice grows, determines the survivability of the family. Their lives, their joys, their beliefs, and their survival is supported by this land. The ground is small, there is a large family, and the children are growing. Balancing the economy becomes difficult. Just then, a banal incident occurs, and the cycle of life transformes it into a tragedy.
