This Sunday, Shilparamam is presenting a Kuchipudi dance recital by Anuradha Nehru and her troupe from USA, as part of its weekly classical dance program. Her troupe has been invited to take part in the prestigious Ananya Dance Festival in New Delhi on 12th October, and will be performing in Hyderabad on the 7th and at the Kalakshetra in Chennai on 9th October as a preview to the festival. This is the first time that a dance ensemble from the United States has been invited to share the festival's stage with some of the best dance troupes in India.
Anuradha was initiated into Bharatanatyam at the age of 8 under the renowned Guru Pakiriswamy, and later under Guru Guruswamy, with whom she trained for 4 years. She did her Bharatanatyam arangetram at the age of 13. When in boarding school at Rishi Valley, India, Anuradha continued her dance training under Smt. Meenakshi Balasubramaniam, who guided her performances in several school productions. While in college in New Delhi, Anuradha began her training in Kuchipudi under Guru Krishna Kumar for 3 years.
It was only when Anuradha began her training at the Kuchipudi Art Academy, under Padmabhushan Dr. Vempati Chinnasatyam, that she realized she had discovered her lifelong vocation. She has performed all over the world, at major dance festivals.
Founder and Artistic Director of Kuchipudi Kalanidhi, in Bethesda, Maryland, Anuradha has been active in the world of Indian classical dance. Through Kuchipudi Kalanidhi, she educates school and university students in Indian dance, through workshops, lectures, demonstrations and performances.
