Kalasagaram is presenting an Annual Youth Festival Of Music
, from 12th to 14th February, at Keyes Girls High School.
Sandeep Narayan will be presenting a Carnatic vocal concert on the last day, 14th February, in memory of Kalyani Balakrishna. He will be accompanied by Ramaraju Dinakar on the violin and Kapa Srinivasa Rao on the mridangam.
Sandeep Narayan, aged 25, is currently a disciple of the south Indian vocalist Sanjay Subrahmanyan. He started his initial training in vocal music at the age of 4, under the guidance of his mother, Shubha Narayan, and began his advanced training under the musician and musicologist, the late Calcutta K S Krishnamurthy, in 1996, and has continued to sharpen his skills under Sanjay Subrahmanyan since 1999.
Sandeep is a ‘B-High’ graded artist of All India Radio Chennai, and is a recipient of the Indian Fine Arts Society’s ‘Best Sub-Senior Vocalist Award’ for the 2008 December music festival. He has performed solo and jugalbandi concerts all over the United States as well, giving concerts in Los Angeles, Cleveland, San Francisco, San Jose, Denver, San Diego, Salt Lake City, and Santa Barbara among other places. In 2001, he had the opportunity of giving a concert in the renowned Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana.
Sandeep regularly performs with accomplished artists, some among whom are S Varadarajan, M R Gopinath, M A Krishnaswamy, Trichur Narendran, Neyveli Narayanan, Thiruvarur Vaidhyanathan, and Melakkaveri Balaji. He has also performed with the Grammy award winning ghatam artist, Vikku Vinayakram, and has worked with fusion artists V Selvaganesh, Pete Lockett, and others. Sandeep graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2006, with a bachelor’s degree in Law and Society.
Kalasagaram is a south-Indian cultural association situated in East Nehru Nagar of East Marredpally, and has been organising Carnatic music concerts for more than 35 years now. The concerts are usually held in the Keyes High School campus in the open-air theatre. The singers are generally from outside Hyderabad, usually amateurs and upcoming artistes. Kalasagaram also occasionally stages south-Indian classical dances and Tamil plays.
