The Chowmahalla Palace Board is organising a five-day music and dance festival from 29th October to 2nd November, at the Chowmahalla Palace. The five- day festival, called the Chowmahalla Mubarak - A Celebration Of Living Heritage, will feature several eminent musicians and dancers, including Dr. Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna, Vikku Vinayakram, Ajay Chakraborthy, Hariharan, Shallu Jindal, the Devan Drone Group, and students of Vipanchee Natayalaya.
On 1st November, the penultimate day, the first recital will have students of Vipanchee Natyalaya performing a jugalbandi of Indian classical dances. Vipanchee was established under the BMK (Dr. Balamurali Krishna) Trust.
When Kalaimamani Dr. Saraswati approached Dr. Balamuralikrishna to set the musical score for her dance drama, 'Annamayya', not only did the artiste agree, but also subsequently, evinced interest in her dance school, Ramana Sudha Natyalaya. After bringing it into the wing of his Trust, it was re-christened Vipanchee Natyalaya. Saraswati took over as the Director of this Natyalaya.
Vipanchee has since trained several aspirants, and also conducts music and dance festivals every year and confers awards to artistes for their contribution to music and dance. It has taken up a the humongous task of restoring over 700 rare kritis of the Saint Thyagaraja, and have now recorded 100 kritis, all sung by Dr. Balamuralikrisha. A dance drama on the life story of Thyagaraja is also being planned for the near future.
Entry is by passes that are available at the venue for free. Please contact Vasudevan at 98498-74574 for further details.
