One of the things that you realize in life is that it is always nice, if not great,
to get an award. Whatever award.
From childhood you routinely see so many people being felicitated, you don't really care much. But you realize what a big deal it is only the day that you get your first award. And that is what makes some organizations that only felicitate people so special. Recognition is the greatest reward to a person who's worked hard, and these organizations fill the gap for awards for lesser mortals who can easily go unnoticed, people like you and us.
Almost three decades back, Ramesh Babu started the Jolly Friends Association with an intention to promote upcoming and senior artists of theater and cinema. And since its inception, it has felicitated top artists from these fields with cash awards, and has also been conducting other programs like one on the International Women's Day every year, where it has honored top women personalities like the Karnataka governor V S Rama Devi, Kiran Bedi and P T Usha among others, as also film actresses Soundarya, Ramya Krishna and others for the contributions to their field.
Jolly Friends, in memory of the great director Jandhyala, has decided to give away a cash award of Rs. 10,000 to one prominent personality every year. Chundoori Madhusudhan Rao will receive the award for this year.
Madhusudhan Rao is a stage artist and is famous for portraying mythological characters. He has presented a number of radio dramas and has won accolades for his role as Bhakta Ramadas. He is especially popular for playing a key role in a play called Sri Krishna Rayabaram. He will also be felicitated on the occasion.
A comedy play scripted by Jandhyala is being planned to follow the felicitation. Around six artists from the Jolly Friends Association will take part in play.
Film actors Rajendra Prasad and Bramhanandam will preside over the function along with K V Ramana Chary, IAS, and Dr C Narayana Reddy.
