The foundation of the society was laid at the UNESCO/SFRR-Asia conference on "Emerging Potentials Of Antioxidant Therapy" held in Goa, in January 1999 by prominent researchers in this field (including professors Lester Packer, Angelo Azzi, Dipak Das, C K Sen and I Rahman).
Prof. Helmut Sies of Germany, President of SFRR - International was the founder of this initiative. SFRR also has journals, as its official organs, to promote research on the various aspects related to free radicals and antioxidants. Earlier annual meetings of SFRR - India were held at Mumbai, Lucknow, Annamalai Nagar, Bangalore, Kolkata, Lonavala, Jaipur and Lucknow.
