The Alliance Française of Hyderabad, in collaboration with the Goethe Zentrum, the French Embassy in India & ARTE, is presenting The World Through ARTE's Eyes, a documentary film festival, from 14th to 16th December, at the Prasad Labs Preview Theatre. A total of 8 short films will be screened during the 3-day festival.
The World Through Arte's Eyes presents documentaries on a host of different places such as Mali, China, North Korea, USA, Haiti, Afghanistan, Iran, India, Germany and France. The effects of globalisation on people from vastly different backgrounds and their working conditions will be addressed, along with migration in Europe, stories from South Asian countries, world music and cinema.
Today, the first day, a 75-minute German/UK film, I For India by Sandhya Suri, will be first film to be screened. A bitter-sweet time capsule of alienation, discovery, racism and belonging, "I for India" is a chronicle of immigration in the '60s Britain and beyond, seen through the eyes of one Asian family and their movie camera.
ARTE was created in 1992 as a joint Franco-German venture and set itself the goal of producing high-quality programmes on art and culture. As cultural exchange is given top priority and is consciously promoted by ARTE, the focus is on the cooperation between ARTE and public broadcasting stations across Europe. The programmes are scheduled to be broadcast in several languages and viewed throughout Europe.
