Born in 1976, Purbayan Chatterjee began his musical tutelage at the age of 5 under his father Parthapratim Chatterjee. He is a disciple of two of the stalwarts of the Senia-Mahar Gharana - Pandit Nikhil Banerjee and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan - and so is the most aesthetically satisfying combination of the best facets of Dhrupad and Khayal.
He is a winner of the prestigious All India Radio Music competition in 1993. His maiden performance was at the Salt Lake Music Conference, Kolkata, and since then he has performed in major music conferences all over India and has travelled far and wide, featuring in prestigious international festivals in several parts of the world.
He has, of late, been experimenting with several genres of music – both within the traditions of Indian classical music and also crossovers to other types of music.
Ananda Gopal Bandopadhyay was initiated into music by his father, and later trained under Pandit Mahadeo Prasad Mishra of the Benaras gharana. A top graded artiste of All India Radio, Ananda Gopal has had a brilliant and successful career as a tabla player, who is adept both as a soloist and an accompanist.
He is a widely travelled artiste, and has played with virtually all the leading performers of Hindustani music at festivals all over the world. He has been a full-time faculty member of the ITC Sangeet Research Academy for over 20 years.
ITC Limited established the prestigious ITC Sangeet Research Academy (ITC-SRA) in 1978 with the objective of preserving and promoting Hindustani Classical Music. ITC-SRA has played a major role in reviving and nurturing India's rich heritage of Hindustani Classical Music.
