ATA is bringing in some experts from Australia to town for 5 days, to make budding tennis players mentally strong. We think the people who need this more are Telugu movie audiences.

Advantage Tennis Academy (ATA) in Malkajgiri, jointly with the National High Performance Academy (NHPA) of Sydney, Australia, is organising a 5-day workshop called High Performance Tennis Workshop, at the SAAP Tennis Complex in the Lal Bahadur Stadium compound, from 27th November to 1st December. The workshop will be conducted by Mark Wilton, the commercial manager of NHPA, Ryan Henry, high performance coach of NHPA and Anthony Richardson, Manager of NHPA, Sydney, together with D R C Kiron, Head Coach of ATA. This is the first time that the program is being conducted in India.

The workshop is designed to enable participants to enhance their pace in the tennis court by including tactical, technical drills simulating match play, and other high intensity drills. Participants at the camp can strive to develop their activity of mind, self-confidence, dignity, discipline, competitive spirit and comradeship, as also improve in performance, strength, speed, endurance and coordination. This helps players to create long-term individual development goals, develop professional skills and get mentally tough for the post-professional circuit.

The workshop is being sponsored by Prince Sports Company, co-ordinated by Sports Authority of India and supported by Tennis Australia. The fee for the workshop is Rs. 10,000 per participant (inclusive of breakfast and lunch). There are limited enrolments, and the last date for registration is 23rd November.

The National High Performance Academy was launched in Sydney on July 2006. It was the first of such academies launched later in four other cities of Australia, namely Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth. The academy has Wally Masur, former Australian Davis Cup Player, as its Head Coach. The objective of the academy is to provide an elite training environment where every athlete will receive optimum on-court training, physical preparation, sports science, medical services and educational opportunities.

Advantage Tennis Academy, formerly known as Sekhar Tennis Academy, was established in 1985 by D Chandra Sekhar, a NIS Tennis Coach, at the IRISET Tennis Complex, Mettuguda (1986-1996), and at the Deccan Club, Marredpally (1986-1998), simultaneously. He later tied up with Family World Club (1993-1996) and the Railway Recreation Club Grounds, Secunderabad (1996-2001), to develop tennis at the grass-root level. Currently the Academy is situated at R K Nagar, Malkajgiri, and at the St. Thomas Sports Coaching Foundation, Neredmet.

Advantage Tennis Academy has produced several players of the past like Susheel Narla, Ramakrishna, Meghana Paritala, Arjun Vijay Raghavan, D R C Kiron, D S Shravya, Aditya Naidu, Shashikant Reddy and Abhay Edlabadkar, and current players like Ekta Singh, M Nishant, A L Anirudh, Jitesh Swamy, Alekhya, Pranav Teja and C Laxman.

The Academy encourages players and youngsters by conducting tournaments on a regular basis, in and around Hyderabad. The primary objective of the Academy is to promote tennis from the grass-root level by introducing the game at the school stage. The Academy is endorsed by Prince Sporting Goods, and is the 1st in South-India to be endorse by this brand.
