This Thursday, the 18th of February, Bangalore-based rock band Galeej Gurus will be performing at the Hard Rock Cafe.
The Galeej Gurus are a band of 5 - Nathan Harris with the vocals, Naveen Thomas and Ananth Menon on the guitars, Matthew Harris on the bass guitar and Kishan Balaji on the drums - who were brought together on this journey through life, all fluent in the same universal language, music. Formed in the year 2000, the Galeej Gurus were influenced by rock greats such as Led Zeppelin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eric Clapton, Steve Vai and Deep Purple. They have several of their own compositions.
They haven’t been able to categorise their genre, and Joseph once explains to Rolling Stone, “Call it progressive funk, progressive blues rock, indie, anything. We’d like to leave it to the listener’s imagination. Our music is for people to enjoy and connect with. Though most of it is based on hypothetical situations, it could just as well be a simple silly song. And that is what our debut album will be as well.”
As for the name of the band, Ananth told the online music magazine eMUSICPOST.com, "Galeej means dirt in most south Indian languages, and here it stands for a state of incompleteness, ignorance, and any other allusions you can pick up from it. Gurus, well, everybody knows that one, but it’s used here in a representation of perfection, of being complete of achievement. We think it’s pretty cool that the two can sit nicely together in one name. And it’s something that sticks in people’s heads when they hear it – we hope."
Entry to the event is free. Please contact the venue at 6660-4242 for further details.
