The cultural wing of the ABN Amro Bank is organising a fusion persussion concert by Bickram Ghosh and group, at the Kohinoor Hall of the Taj Deccan, this Wednesday. The concert is being presented as part of the bank's efforts to help its employees achieve better and higher goals with the help of music therapy.
World famous percussionist and new-age percussion star Bickram Ghosh is ranked amongst the great tabla players of the country. Equally brilliant in the traditional as well as the experimental genres, Bickram has carved out a unique niche for himself in his diverse avatars as classical musician, new–age artiste and composer.
Son of the great tabla maestro Pandit Shankar Ghosh, Bickram has also learnt the nuances of Carnatic percussion from Pandit S Sekhar. He performed for over a decade with the legendary Pandit Ravi Shankar, who honed the latter's skills in the art of accompaniment.
He has over 50 recordings as soloist, composer and collaborator, and has performed in almost every top venue in the world, among which are The Royal Albert Hall, London; The Kennedy Centre, Washington DC; The Palais De Beaux Arts, Brussels; and Carnegie Hall, New York.
His performances have met with accolades in international circuits, and he has had associations with top Western musicians such as George Harrison, Mstilav Rostropovich, Khaled Kouen and Yosi Levi. Bickram played on the Grammy winning album 'Full Circle' along with Pt. Ravi Shankar, and has been part of a number of Grammy nominated albums as well.
Rhythmscape, Ghosh's hugely successful maiden project as a composer, showcases the fertile imagination of the brilliant artiste. His compositional skills belie his age, and the wonderful variety of mood, tone and expression that comes through speak volumes of his skills in this genre.
The team of Rhythmscape consists a bunch of highly talented musicians, including Suprotik Das with the vocals, Sanjoy Das on the guitar, Rajesh Vaidhya on the electric veena, Pulak Sarkar on the keyboards, S Sekhar on the mridangam, Gopal Burman on the Shree Khol, Chiradeep Lahiri on the drums and V Suresh on the ghatam.
The entry to the concert is only by invitations. Please contact 6685-8801 for further details.
