Kalasagaram is organising its 41st Annual Cultural Festival of Music, Dance & Drama. The festival starts from 22nd Nov '08 and ends on 30th Nov '08.
On the 5th day of the event, i.e. on 26th Nov '08, renowed flautist Kalaimamani S Shashank is performing. He will be accompanied by B U Ganesh Prasad on the violin and Patri Satish Kumar on the mridangam. The performance will start at 6:30 pm.
Shashank was a child prodigy, and gave his first concert at the tender age of 11 at Adelaide, Australia in 1990, and followed it up with his debut in India. He was the youngest musician of the century to play the presigious 'Sadas' Concert at the Music Academy, Chennai on 1st Jan, 1991. He is an 'A Top' Grade Artiste of AIR & DD. He has performed in India and abroad, along with famous artists, including John Mclaughlin, Zakir Hussain, Ustad Sultan Khan, Pandit Viswa Mohan Bhatt, and Pandit Ajoy Chakravathy.
Currently, he is learning Hindustani vocal music from Pandit Jasraj. Shashank has propelled the bamboo flute into an enviable position, by his multi-flute transposed fingering technique.
Entry is by tickets, which can be booked in advance. Season passes for the 9-day festival are available for Rs. 400, Rs. 300 & Rs. 200, and daily passes are priced at Rs. 100, Rs. 50 & Rs. 25. Tickets are available at Keyes High School, everyday, from 5:30pm.
